Lovely Lavender

Have you ever walked past rows of lavender on a summer’s day? If so, you’ll remember the scent that drifted up as you brushed past the lavender stalks and the hum of the bees as they collected the pollen. There’s something very special about lavender but is that just because of its lovely fragrance or is there something else going on here?

Baldwins sell more products scented with lavender than anything else. That includes bath oils, soaps, essential oils, aromatherapy products, hand creams, body creams, and the list goes on. Lavender simply doesn’t lose its popularity regardless of what changes around it.

Perhaps one of the reasons is its ability to soothe and calm. Lavender is used as an aid to sleep; many people have lavender pillows on their beds and studies have shown that it actually does help people fall asleep and stay asleep for longer. But there’s more to this humble looking plant than meets the eye. Lavender contains ingredients known as esters, ketones and linalool, which between them help reduce inflammation, fight infection, kill bacteria, relieve pain, heal burns and wounds, and that’s in addition to its sleep enhancing qualities. Wow – quite a list! No wonder it stays at the top of the charts. To try it out, go to Baldwin’s section on lavender where you’ll find a host of products to choose from.

Personally, I love lavender because of its quintessential Englishness that reminds me of lazy sunny days. Isn’t that a good enough reason?
